Beginning with this July 2009 issue, we are introducing a whole new section to our volunteer e-blast. The new addition is called "Eat & Greet". This new section will spotlight a fellow volunteer along with a recipe of choice to share. What a great way to get to know other volunteers - fun tid bits of information along with a taste they want to share. Who knows - YOU could be next! |

| What day of the week do you volunteer and when did you join us for the first time? |
Donna: I volunteer on Thursdays in the morning and have been with Sharing Connections since February of 2009. |
|
| If you had one word that best describes yourself, what would it be? |
Donna: Enthusiastic |
|
| What brought you to Sharing Connections as a volunteer? |
Donna: My mom, Carol Sherman, originally introduced me to the organization but I also love helping others. |
|
| What is one thing that other volunteers may not know about you? |
Donna: I love to go fishing! |
|
| Outside of SC, where else do you volunteer your time ? |
Donna: I have volunteered so many places, but before Sharing Connections I volunteered with Wesmont High School, Westmont Park District and Westmont Homeowners Association. |

Recipe to Share... |
 |
Take one Vidalia Onion, core the middle. Add a Chicken Bouillon to the center (I’m sure you could also use beef) Make slits in the onion and put pats of butter in slits. Wrap in foil, grill until soft but not mushy (about 30 minutes) and enjoy!
You could add so many different seasonings and spices and also fresh garlic! Yummy! |

|
| Together with Donna, volunteers donated over 1,089 hours that enabled us to provide items that directly benefited 218 individuals in June 2009. |

| 6th Annual Golf Outing |
Our major benefit, the 6th Annual Sharing Connections Furniture Bank Golf Outing is at Ruffled Feathers in Lemont on Monday, August 10th.
Two pieces of good news: we have enough volunteers to help and sponsorships have come in stronger than expected in this tough economy, but we do have room for more golfers and more foursomes. If you are connected to anyone with a business which could support the $250 per golfer price, I would be very appreciative. Just let me know via email at awohlberg@sharingconnections.org or call me at 630-971-0565, x224. Thank you so much for helping out in any way you can for this important fundraiser.
Thank you - Ann |

| Sharing Your Enthusiasm of S.C. |
Anyone that has been working with me over the past six months has heard me talk about gearing up for the next level of outreach to local retailers, resturants and hotels for the much needed items we provide to families - well, that time is here (hey, who knew there was over 1,800 locally???)
Thanks to the investigative work by volunteer Danielle Marganti, our list of possible commercial donors is coming together fast. With that being said, I'm looking for volunteers that would be interested in helping me do outreach via the phone to these "donors-in-waiting" by telling our story - and expressing how their donation will make a difference. Who can tell the story better then you? You're awesome! There's no one better...(is it working?)
Oh come on...you know you want to work with me!!! Contact me (Ryan) at your earliest convenience via email or call me at 630-971-0565, x227 - or stop me on your next day of volunteering. |

| It's Not All About Me... |
Now that I have five e-blasts under my belt (including this one) I'm looking back and trying to find ways to keep it interesting and fun enough for you to keep on reading. Yes, I know I know... you hang all of them up on your wall, but eventually even you will get bored of this little gem we call an e-blast if I don't keep it interesting. So I ask you...what would you like to see more of? What do you like the most?
Just when you thought I couldn't ask for your ideas and comments more then I do - the next time you're in the lunchroom, check out the NEW volunteer comment box! I learned a long time ago (and you made sure of it) that many ideas have come and gone over the years - and I want to tap into the goldmine of history you have with Sharing Connections and make sure we are implementing the best ideas fueled by you when it comes to warehouse operations! They may not all be possible to implement, but I can promise you that they are all appreciated.
Phew... in closing this month, I looked back at last month's e-blast write-up about the warehouse Keurig machine and thought that maybe I was too enthusiastic. Some may say it's just coffee so I decided not to put anything in this issue about the NEW Keurig flavors in the warehouse for the volunteers: Cafe Escapes "Milk Chocolate" Hot Cocoa, Caribou Coffee Decaf coffee, Timothy's Irish Cream coffee, Gloria Jean's Swiss Chocolate Almond coffee and Gloria Jean's Mudslide coffee - and since I decided not to mention it, you'll never know to give them a taste ;) |
Until next time... |
