| Getting to know fellow volunteers one recipe at a time... |
 |
| with Volunteer, Rosemary Galczak |
|
|
| What day of the week do you volunteer and when did you join us for the first time? |
Rosemary: I volunteer every Wednesday and Thursday and have been a part of the Sharing Connections Furniture Bank family for over 5 years...but who's counting? |
|
| If you had one word that best describes yourself, what would it be? |
Rosemary: Mutli-multi-multi-tasker. No job is too big or too small. Whatever needs to get done I'm there...if I can remember how many things I have going. |
|
| What brought you to Sharing Connections as a volunteer? What keeps you returning each week? |
Rosemary: A Baptist church in my neighborhood posted a notice on the bulletin board and here I am. As for what keeps me coming back, I would have to say that it's the look on people's faces after they are helped - or the hugs we receive - it's that happiness that I have the chance to witness first hand that keeps me coming back week after week. I also love the people that I volunteer with each week. We have tons of laughs and I've made some great friends. |
|
| What is one thing that other volunteers may not know about you? |
Rosemary: Sorry, there's nothing everyone doesn't already know about me - I'm not very quiet about anything. |
|
| Can you tell us about a "Sharing Connections" moment you've experienced since you've been here? |
Rosemary: I will never forget the time a client had come in, very depressed, so I knew (because I'm a very happy person) that she would be my project. I asked her if she needed anything and she said, "no, I don't need anything". I asked again thinking that maybe she needed a coat and she finally said, "maybe". I found her a fur coat and when I presented it to her, her eyes lit up as we looked into the mirror together. Her eyes filled with tears, which of course made me cry, and I was able to leave that day knowing that she not only looked great, but she left with a smile on her face. |

| Brick by Brick... |
As a regular volunteer you have definitely noticed some changes taking place in our main warehouse. Whether it be the removal of the wall or the relocation of the sorting table, great change is coming.
Over the next month we will transforming our current warehouse space at 5111 Chase and our new warehouse space at 5109 to better accomodate our clients, our donors and of course, you - our volunteers.
Thanks to the generous donation of labor "free-of-charge" to Sharing Connections by ARCO/Murray and their project partners, you will begin to see the building of the new climate controlled volunteer lunchroom (away from the harsh weather conditions), sorting area, office space, client waiting area and much improved donor drop-off area.
Pardon our progress - but rest assured, when it's complete, the final outcome will put a smile on your face. We encourage you to take a look at some of the pictures that have been collected... |

| Gobble Gobble... |
It's been a little bit since my last Keurig update... well, you'll be happy to know that I've replenished the stash for you. During your next volunteer day, be sure to try the Donut House Coffee (Timothy's Brand is my favorite) and for you tea drinkers, try the Mandarin Orange Spice, English Breakfast, and Big Earl Grey! I'll stick to my leaded java ;)
As the days have progressed, you've climbed over drywall pieces, shimmied past open walls and hopped around the sorting table...but this will pay off very soon. "How", you ask? We are getting closer and closer to finalizing our volunteer appreciation week and we figured what better way to celebrate YOU then to break in the new volunteer lunchroom? Watch for updated information to follow soon! Oh yeah, we know that you're going to be spoiled now with climate control and a sink (hee hee), but you're worth it.
Thanksgiving is approaching quickly (heck, they've been playing Christmas music in the stores for two months already), and it's this time of year we always look back and reflect on what we are most thankful for. Of course I'm thankful for every other Saturday off - but on a serious note, I'm thankful for all of you that bunkered down during this construction and still forced a smile at me even when I knew you were struggling through the dust, for those of you that continue to travel further then most would for a paid job and most of all for those of you who continue to laugh with me when it's most needed. Your dedication not only encourages clients that visit us each day, it serves as a reminder to me of how important it is that I strive to do my very best at my job. Okay - enough with the sweet sappy stuff...I'm VERY THANKFUL that we're off on November 26th, 27th and the 28th - mark it down on your calendar. ;) |
Until next time... |
