| How
can I get furniture and/or household
items? |
| A: |
Sharing
Connections works on a referral basis
only. That means that you must first
go to an approved referral agency.
Some general examples of referring
agencies include social service agencies,
schools, and government assistance
programs. Someone at the agency will
complete a furniture wish list with
you and then submit it to Sharing
Connections. Contact your social worker or the organization you receive services from to be referred to us. |
| What
if I'm not working with a social worker or agency? |
A: |
Your individual circumstances will decide what agency can be of most help to you through their services - and they can also submit your wishlist to us. Check out our growing list of agencies that refer to us by clicking here. |
| What
if my family is only in need of clothing? |
A: |
While our main services focus of much needed furniture - we also offer clothing to our clients. Call our client care line at 630-971-0565, x222 (x230 for bilingual services) and we will work on scheduling a date in which you can select clothing for your family. |
| What
kind of furniture do you offer? |
A: |
Sharing
Connections provides gently used furniture
and household items, such as beds,
tables, lamps, and sofas. Sharing Connections also
has items for babies, such as cribs,
strollers, and high chairs. Please
note that there is a service fee of
$50 to access our services. NOTE:
We rely on the community for furniture and item donations - donation and inventory levels will effect what items are available at the time of pickup. Twin mattress sets are available when a home visit is conducted by a social worker/referral agent. |
| What
do I do once my wish list is placed? |
A: |
Once
Sharing Connections has your wish
list, we will put you on our waiting
list. The wait time for furniture
varies depending on our donated supply. When
your wish list is ready, you will
be called by one of our volunteers to set up a scheduled pickup date that will fit your schedule. Please
note that this time frame is different
than our normal operating hours
in order to give you enough time
to collect your wish
list items.
You
must have a large enough vehicle
to pick up your wish
list
and must bring people to help you
load your vehicle. Sharing Connections’
staff and volunteers are not able
to assist in the loading process
- no exceptions.
When
you are at Sharing Connections,
you can also get clothes for you
and your family, personal care items,
and cleaning supplies. You will
also receive information about other
programs that can assist you with
help for food, clothes, the rent
or mortgage, utility cost, medical
costs, etc.
It is extremely vital that you make your scheduled appointment. Missed appointments and rescheduled appointments extend the time other families must wait to use our services. If an appointment is missed without prior notice, you may have to start the process again and in some cases a "no show" may disqualify you from using our services in the future. |
