Accessing our services

Sharing Connections works on a referral basis only. By this, we mean that a family must work with one of the pre-approved organizations or social service agencies that partner with us to have a furniture request [referral] placed on their behalf.

We provide gently used furniture and household items to families at or below the poverty level struggling with fire, flood, job loss, domestic violence relocation and veterans suffering from war trauma by providing them with the items they cannot afford to purchase.

Does Sharing Connections Furniture Bank sell the furniture and household items?
A:
No. We are not open to the public. To promote a sense of ownership and encourage self sufficiency, we do charge a $50 access fee to use our services - regardless of the amount of items provided. This minimal charge helps us to continue to provide this service. Clients work directly with their social worker or case manager in planning for payment of this fee. This required fee is non-refundable.
How can I get furniture and/or household items?
A:
We work on a referral basis only. That means in order to use our services, your current social worker or case manager that you actively work with must refer you to use our services. We do not replace furniture you currently own and only provide services to individuals without home furnishings. You can call our client care line at 630-971-0565, x222 to discuss your options. If you do not qualify to use our services, our team will work hard to provide you with options in your area.
What if I'm not working with a social worker or agency?
A:
If you qualify to use our services, there is a good chance you are already working with one of our approved agencies. Your individual circumstances will decide what agency can be of most help to you through their services - and they can also submit your needs request to us.
What if my family is only in need of clothing?
A:
While our main services focus of much needed furniture - we also offer clothing to our clients. Call our client care line at 630-971-0565, x222 (x230 for bilingual services) and we will work on scheduling a date in which you can select clothing for your family.
What kind of furniture do you offer?
A:
Sharing Connections provides gently used furniture and household items, such as beds, tables, lamps, and sofas. Sharing Connections also has items for babies, such as cribs, strollers, and high chairs.

NOTE: We rely on the community for furniture and item donations - so inventory levels will effect what items are available at the time of pickup. Some restrictions do apply.

What do I do once I'm referred?
A:
Once we receive your needs request from an approved agency, we will put you on our wait list. The wait time for furniture varies depending on our donated supply.

You will be called by one of our staff or volunteers to set up a scheduled appointment for pick up of the furniture items. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity - therefore, make sure you are prepared for your pickup. Rescheduling an appointment is limited to documented emergency situations that will require proof. Non-emergency reschedule attempts will be denied and you will no longer be eligible for our services.

My specific question was not covered above, who do I talk to for the answer?
A:
We understand that this section does not cover all questions and/or special circumstances - so we want to encourage you to contact us directly to discuss how we may assist you in this process, to make it as easy and comfortable as possible, for you and your family. Please call our Client Care line at 630-971-0565, X222 and leave a message. We will return your call as soon as possible.
POINTERS FOR A SUCCESSFUL PICKUP:
  • You must have a large enough vehicle to pick up your items and bring 1-2 people to help you load your vehicle.
  • It's important to keep your scheduled pickup date as missed appointments disqualify you from using our services.
  • There is a $50 access fee due at the time of pickup that enables us to support our service.
  • Delivery may be an option if you live within DuPage County. Contact our office at 630-971-0565 x222 for more information. Additional $50 delivery fee applies to assist in fuel and truck maintenance costs.
Whether you are a member of an agency or an individual needing furniture, the staff and volunteers at Sharing Connections will always treat you with respect and work hard to meet your needs as best we can!
Attention Agencies and Clients - we DO NOT provide new furniture and household items per our wish lists. The items provided are gently used donations from the community.
